The Method - Flux

Flux.1 Dev as it's properly called was released by Black Forest Labs (BFL) in August 2024.
it was clear from the start that this was a game-changer, if a censored one.

The three guys who founded BFL were part of the group at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich that had developed what became known as SD 1 when released by Stability AI.

Flux when new could do amazing thing out of the box, it was so much better then not only SD, but also was "comparable with DALL-E 3 in terms of prompt fidelity, with the photorealism closely matched [to] Midjourney 6", according to Ars Technica.
But BFL took the unfortunate decision to censor Flux completely, as in: no nipples, no pubic area, essentially generating barbie dolls when asked to do nudity - a provocation if ever there was one. The first de-censored models were immediately released, and were quite bad.

In the last months, a lot has changed - there are a LOT of FluxDev models on CivitAI now that do nudity, and they are beginning to do it in an acceptable quality.

The Flux pics on this site aren't porn, they aren't even graphic nudity, because the former isn't quite doable (yet), and the latter is sub-par quality at the moment. Instead, I focus on lighting and quality of content in general.
The picture above is a good example of the kind of thing Flux does way better than SDXL. The reflections in the multiple mirrors aren't perfect, but you have to look closely to see problems, whereas with SDXL they are glaringly obvious.

At the moment, I admit to being more impressed with Flux's abilty to do nearly proper photgraphic content than with SDXL pony's abilty to do porn, dragons or not.

There is no trickery involved in my Flux generations, it is a Flux dev model and nothing else. This is quite a different experience from SDXL, where a LOT of various embeddings, special comfy nodes, and some knowledge of the tagging system used is necessary.

In most cases, it's better to hide the shortcomings of de-censored Flux, which where the pubes come in, and to some extent the rarely completely nude state of the protagonists.
